Statement: The scientist disliked the new method. Passage: The scientist said the method required further testing. Answer: True.
IELTS True, False or Not Given: your real-world knowledge is not the evidence.
This task becomes unreliable when the learner asks whether a statement is sensible or probably true. The test asks about its relationship with the passage, not with general knowledge.

For each statement, underline the exact claim and locate the corresponding passage evidence. Label the relationship as agreement, contradiction or insufficient information. If you cannot point to the evidence, do not guess from the topic.
Do not accept advice until you can see what changes in the response.
This is a QuickTalk Tutor practice example, not official test material and not a promised score. The criterion claim is checked against the official sources listed later in this article.
“Required further testing” does not mean “disliked”. The answer uses an inference that the passage does not state.
Not Given. The passage reports caution about evidence, but it does not state the scientist’s personal dislike.
The meaning remains the learner’s. The job of the correction is to make that meaning clearer and more effective. One sentence alone cannot guarantee an OET grade.
Write the exact passage claim beside the statement. Choose True only for the same meaning, False for contradiction, and Not Given when the required claim is absent.
If you can see the mistake but cannot identify what keeps causing it in your own work, the Diagnostic checks your exact route, skill, current criteria and target.
Not Given is an evidence decision, not a feeling of uncertainty.
IELTS Academic Reading uses several task types and requires answers within the fixed section time. True/False/Not Given decisions often become slow when learners keep searching for information the text never supplies.
False requires a contradiction in the text. Not Given means the statement cannot be confirmed or contradicted from the supplied passage. A missing detail can change the classification.
The useful error record shows the statement, the passage evidence and the relationship chosen. That reveals whether locating, paraphrase or logical comparison is failing.
Use the current authority for the rule, then use your own unchanged work to decide what needs teaching.
Check the decision that is actually being made.
A useful diagnosis separates the parts of the performance before recommending more practice.

Use a three-column evidence table.
- Write the statement claim in short form.
- Copy only the relevant passage words.
- Name the relationship and explain it in one sentence.
- Repeat with a new passage under timing.
Transfer check
The skill transfers when the decision remains evidence-based on an unfamiliar topic.
Your words. Clearer and stronger, but still yours.
The work begins with the unchanged evidence, one clear priority and a practical correction. A fresh task then shows whether the change is available without copying the old answer.
Keep the original
Use the first response, recording or timing evidence.
Name one priority
Separate the strongest supported blocker from smaller issues.
Strengthen your words
Make the response clearer without replacing the learner’s thinking.
Change the task
Use fresh material to check whether the improvement transfers.
Do not pay for help you do not need.
Verify external requirements with the responsible organisation. Use teaching for the English performance that the evidence actually supports.
The blocker is already clear
Use focused teaching for the exact route and skill.
