The image is very informative. Overall, it shows various fluctuations, and the highest figure is higher than the lowest figure.
Your PTE Describe Image template works until the image does not fit it.
A template can reduce the panic of the first sentence. It becomes a problem when you spend the response forcing a process, map, photograph and line graph through language designed for a bar chart.

Practise a flexible order: identify the visual, state the main pattern or purpose, select two supported details, and close with the most useful relationship. Keep the order; change the language to fit the evidence.
Do not accept advice until you can see what changes in the response.
This is a QuickTalk Tutor practice example, not official test material and not a promised score. The criterion claim is checked against the official sources listed later in this article.
The template says almost nothing about this image. Generic statements replace the visible relationship.
The chart shows online sales rising from 20% to 45%, while store sales fall from 55% to 35%. The main contrast is the shift towards online purchasing.
The meaning remains the learner’s. The job of the correction is to make that meaning clearer and more effective. One sentence alone cannot guarantee an OET grade.
In 25 seconds, write the topic, strongest pattern and two supporting figures. Describe only those. Try again with a map or process where “highest” and “lowest” do not fit.
If you can see the mistake but cannot identify what keeps causing it in your own work, the Diagnostic checks your exact route, skill, current criteria and target.
The real question is what happens when the visual changes.
Describe Image sits in the official PTE Academic Speaking and Writing section. A response must be produced under short preparation and speaking conditions, so retrieval and selection matter together.
If your fluency collapses only on diagrams, the issue may be visual interpretation language. If it collapses on every unfamiliar image, the problem may be planning under pressure. If you speak smoothly but describe little, content selection needs attention.
One overall Speaking score cannot separate those behaviours for us.
I do not need a generic mistake list. I need the behaviour that repeats when the material, timing or follow-up changes.
Check the decision that is actually being made.
A useful diagnosis separates the parts of the performance before it recommends more practice.

Use four unlike images in one session.
- Choose a chart, process, map and photograph.
- Give yourself the same short planning routine for each.
- Record one response without stopping.
- Compare where planning, vocabulary or fluency changes by visual type.
Transfer check
The method is working when a new visual still produces a clear response, even though the exact sentences are different.
Your words. Clearer and stronger, but still yours.
I keep the original evidence, choose one priority, strengthen the response without replacing your voice, then change the task. That final change tells us whether the work transferred.
Keep the original
We need the unchanged response, recording or timing log.
Name one priority
We separate the strongest supported blocker from smaller issues.
Strengthen your words
The improved response should still sound like you, with the reason for each change clear.
Change the task
A fresh task shows whether the improvement is available without the old answer.
Do not pay for help you do not need.
If the blocker is clear, teach it. If the cause is still unclear, investigate it before building the plan.
The blocker is already clear
Choose focused practice after you know whether interpretation, selection or delivery is failing.
