I read the whole passage carefully, then I read every question and search again.
You keep running out of time in IELTS Reading. First find out where the minutes are going.
IELTS Academic Reading gives you 60 minutes for three sections and 40 questions. That is the test condition. It still does not tell us why your last eight questions become a rush.

Run one timed passage and log the time at four points: first look at the task, locate the evidence, decide the answer, and check it. The largest number tells you what to train. Do not call every timing problem “slow reading”.
Do not accept advice until you can see what changes in the response.
This is a QuickTalk Tutor practice example, not official test material and not a promised score. The criterion claim is checked against the official sources listed later in this article.
The passage is processed twice before many answers are attempted. The problem may be navigation rather than reading speed.
I preview the task, mark the key constraint in each question, locate the relevant part of the passage and read that section closely.
The meaning remains the learner’s. The job of the correction is to make that meaning clearer and more effective. One sentence alone cannot guarantee an OET grade.
Time one passage in stages. Record when you finish reading, when each question set ends and where you return to the same paragraph. Fix the stage that consumes the minutes.
If you can see the mistake but cannot identify what keeps causing it in your own work, the Diagnostic checks your exact route, skill, current criteria and target.
A timing problem can begin before you read the difficult paragraph.
Some learners reread the whole passage because they do not trust where the evidence is. Others locate quickly but spend too long deciding between close options. A third group loses time on one task family, then carries the delay into every question that follows.
The official test uses several question types, including matching, multiple choice, identifying information or views, completion and short answers. A single overall score hides which decisions are slow.
I would rather see a five-line timing log than hear that you completed ten more untimed passages. The log gives us something teachable.
I do not need a generic mistake list. I need the behaviour that repeats when the material, timing or follow-up changes.
Check the decision that is actually being made.
A useful diagnosis separates the parts of the performance before it recommends more practice.
Locating

Deciding
Recovering
Use a twelve-minute evidence audit.
- Choose one official sample passage and one question family.
- Write the start time beside each question.
- Underline the exact evidence before selecting an answer.
- After twelve minutes, stop and classify every delay as locating, interpreting, deciding or checking.
Transfer check
Repeat the same process on a different passage. If the same delay category returns, you have evidence for the next lesson.
Your words. Clearer and stronger, but still yours.
I keep the original evidence, choose one priority, strengthen the response without replacing your voice, then change the task. That final change tells us whether the work transferred.
Keep the original
We need the unchanged response, recording or timing log.
Name one priority
We separate the strongest supported blocker from smaller issues.
Strengthen your words
The improved response should still sound like you, with the reason for each change clear.
Change the task
A fresh task shows whether the improvement is available without the old answer.
Do not pay for help you do not need.
If the blocker is clear, teach it. If the cause is still unclear, investigate it before building the plan.
The blocker is already clear
Use focused Reading teaching when the timing log has exposed the repeated decision.
